SRINAGAR, Aug 6: Around 60 persons’ sustained injuries as groups of protesters clashed with Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at various places in Kashmir even as normal life was crippled for the 29th consecutive day today due to curfew, restrictions and strike in the valley. At the same time the death toll in the continued Kashmir violence reached 58 as three more persons were killed in the firing of police and CRPF in Budgam and Baramulla districts on Friday. More than 300 persons had sustained injuries during day long clashes on Friday. Reports said that at least 40 persons including seven women were injured when police and CRPF lobbed teargas shells and fired few rounds in air while a group of people had assembled to organize a religious conference in Chee village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The injured persons were shifted to District Hospital Anantnag for treatment. The police and CRPF personnel raided the venue of the conference and ransacked the dais set up for the conference. They also took away the tents that had been erected at the venue of the conference. The police and CRPF resorted to lathi-charge and teargas shelling on a group of people who tried to resist their action, reports said. The women injured in this incident had sustained injuries due to the pellet firing. Reports said that at least three youth sustained injuries as clashes erupted between protesters and the security forces at Natipora, Chanapora and Kawdara areas of the Srinagar city. While two youth sustained pellet injuries at Kawdara in downtown city, one youth was injured in pellet firing in the Natipora area. His condition is said to be critical. Reports said that authorities had to impose curfew in the Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla after four persons’ sustained injuries due to the pellet firing by police and CRPF personnel. People had ssembled in the Pattan Chowk and as more were joining in the participants had planned to carry out a huge protest rally. However, sensing trouble the police and CRPF swung into action and used teargas shelling and pellet firing to disperse the protesters. This led to injuries to four persons. The injured included a girl. The girl suffered an injury near one of her ears. All the injured were shifted to Sub-district hospital Pattan where from one of the injured was shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment. Late in the evening reports said that groups of youth clashed with the security forces in the Nowpora area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The clashes took place at a time when the security forces were returning to their camps after day-long deployment at Papchan area. Reports said that security forces resorted to aerial firing and heavy teargas shelling to disperse the protesters. The clashes were going on when last reports came in. Clashes also erupted in the Kaloosa area of the same district. Heavy contingents of Police and CRPF have been deployed in order to bring the situation under control. Some of the protesters sustained injuries during these clashes. Meanwhile, curfew remained in place in Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Pulwama and Kulgam districts and also in Khanpora area of Baramulla district. Elsewhere restrictions and strike call given by the separatists crippled the normal life. Only few private vehicles could be seen moving on the roads. Schools, colleges, banks and other commercial establishments remained closed with attendance in government offices being very thin. Shops also remained closed across the length and breadth of the valley. It would be in place to mention here that three civilians identified as Mohammad Maqbool Wagay, Sameer Ahmad Wani and Danish Rasool Mir were killed in firing of police and CRPF in Budgam and Baramulla districts on Friday. Kashmir valley has been on edge since the evening of July 8 when Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed along with his two associates in a brief encounter with police and security forces at Bemdoora-Kokernag in Anantnag district. So far 58 persons including three policemen have been killed in clashes at different places as people protested against the killing of Burhan.
