Time for US to realise talks and terror can't coexist | | | Even while favouring direct talks between India and Pakistan for promoting cordial ties, for resolving the bilateral problems and for promoting peace in Kashmir Washington has berated those favouring war against India. In fact Washington has been perturbed by the utterances of Hizbul Mujahideen Chief and chairman of Muzaffarabad based United Jehad Council, Syed Salahudin, in which he had advocated the need for launching a nuclear attack by Pakistan on India. And the US Government is opposed to such rehtorics as such utterances, irresponsible indeed, were bound to strain the relations between India and Pakistan which could enhance political and security instability in the South Asian region. Such rehtorics could flare up the tension and conflict between the two neighbouring countries. And Pakistan should relaise the growing influence of the ISIS and other terrorist groups. That Pakistan is in a deep crisis that is being triggered by terrorist groups in evident from the deadly attack in Quetta in which 75 people were killed. It is not the first of its type there have been series of terrorist strikes on mosques during congregations, on hospitals, on schools and on Army units. Amid reports of provocative remarks against India by Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, the US has said such rhetoric is "unhelpful" for regional safety and security and emphasised the need for talks between India and Pakistan. Washington believes that anything that does not lead to a calm and peaceful and moderate resolution of differences is not helpful. The US believes that for regional safety and security, it is the responsibility of the two countries not only to speak directly to each other but also to have that support within the broader international community. And the statement of Salahuddin threatening to wage a nuclear war against India over the Kashmir issue is going to increase tension, derail peace and escalate tension. Asked about Monday's terror attack in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province in which 75 people were killed, the US spokesman said the US stood with Pakistan in the fight against terror and reminded Islamabad of its commitment to go after all terrorist groups. Whether Islamabad and the Army in Pakistan go after terrorist outfits or not what is important for ensuring peace in the region is to abandon Pakistan's support to militants operating in Kahsmir, abandon its support to separatists and suspend its support to infiltrators. In fact during the last 27 years Pakistan has launched a war against India in Jammu and Kashmir and Washington has, unfortunately, taken no notice of it. Well whenever New Delhi announces its plan for reopening the channels of dialogue with Pakistan, agencies across the LOC commit a mischief which force India to choke the doors of dialogue. New Delhi has made it clear to Islamabad that t alks and terror cannot coexist and hence Pakistan has to make a choice. If it wants channels of dialogue to be opened it has to stop exporting terror to Kashmir and to other states in India. Let Pakistan stop aiding separatists and openly condemn violence in Kashmir and India would be willing to move a mile. But the tragedy with Pakistan is that it continues to interfere in the internal matters of India and that is its undoing. |
