Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 10: It sounds incredible but is true that two doctors have been appointed on records as regular against 28 sanctioned posts of Consultants and Medical Officers (MOs) for more than one lakh people under Kalakot Health Zone.
Besides two Medical Officers, a dental surgeon, 4 pharmacists and 5 Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHW) have been running important Community Health Centre (CHC) situated at Kalakote tehsil headquarter.
According to sources, all the five posts of consultant doctors including Physician, Surgeon, Gynecologist, and Pediatrics & Anesthesiasit are lying vacant while out of seven posts of Medical officers five are lying vacant.
"CHC Kalakot is situated on accident prone Rajouri-Jammu road and even a patient with minor ailment either is sent to District Hospital Rajouri, SDH Sunderbani or to Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu as the health institution sans X-Ray and ultra sound facilities, they added.
Sources said, "Shortage of doctors is not only hampering the medical services in CHC Kalakot but all the Health Centres in Kalakot Block are facing acute shortage of doctors and paramedical staff and in an exceptional example PHC Kote Chalwal is being run by a Safaiwala and Nursing Orderly (NO)."
If recalled here immediately after taking charge of Chief medical Officer (CMO) , Dr Mohd Younis had stated that his first effort would be to provide senior pharmacists and FMPHWs at every Health centre in Rajouri district so that people especially women don't suffer. "For shortage of doctors the State government will take necessary action in this matter," he had said
But even after one month nothing has been changed people of this health block facing many difficulties during medical emergencies and after hiring private vehicles either rushing to Rajouri or to Jammu.
Sources said that Health Centre at Kote Chalwal is being run by a Nursing Orderly and Safaiwala but the Sub District Hospital (as recorded in Health Department records) at Triyath is being run by Junior Pharmacist and 2-Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHW), sources added.
"District Health authorities have been facing many internal problems in managing the health centres including District Hospital in Rajouri district due to shortage of Consultants/Medical Officers and Paramedical staff," said a senior Health Officer on anonymity.
He added that the matter is in the notice of Director Health Services and it was hoped that soon the situation will improve in the district.
He also assured to provide at least one doctor at each PHC by deputing doctors appointed in the district under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
Pertinently as per records only 88 post of doctors are filled against 238 sanctioned posts of consultant/doctors for Rajouri district and rest are lying vacant while out of 101 sanctioned posts of doctors under NRHM 18 posts are lying vacant.
