Srinagar, Aug 10: Maintaining that sufficient stock of ration is available in the Kashmir valley, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday said that Over 5600 trucks carrying perishable essential goods for the Kashmir Valley have reached safely Srinagar since unrest.
The Home Minister while informing the Raj Sabha during the debate on Kashmir situation said that despite the law and order situations in the Valley, there is no paucity of ration and other essentials in the valley. "There is wrong information that the Kashmir valley is short of essential goods.I must inform the house that since July 14 over 5600 trucks of essential goods have reached and have been distributed in the valley," Rajnath Singh said.
It was reported and raised in the Raj Sabha that Kashmir has witnessed a dip in the flow of trucks carrying vegetables and fruits in the last 30 days of unrest following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani .
President, Parimpora Fruit Mandi, had said that only few trucks could reach the Valley during these days.
The sources had said that the reason for dip in the flow, was that most of the truck drivers prefer stay home and not to risk their lives during these days of unrest.
Meanwhile the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali also expressed satisfaction over sufficient stock of rations available in the stores.
Zulfkar Ali told Early Times that there were 51673 MTs of Rice and 5539 MTs of Wheat available in Kashmir which is sufficient for 2 months. "During the current unrest the CAPDD ensured supply of food grains in every corner of Valley," he said.
The minister said that the department has completed the distribution of foodgrains for the month of July in the Kashmir division and will achieve the August target by the end of the month.
The minister also added that petroleum products are also available in all parts of Valley.
