Udhampur Aug 10: Despite various schemes and programmes undertaken to sanitize public places across the Udhampur town which lie un-cleaned, emitting foul smell making it difficult to the passerby and giving an ugly look to visitors. Members of civil society, and morning walkers association has alleged that heaps of garbage could be seen accumulated in most of the public parks of city and many parks and markets still await sanitization thus are bringing immense inconvenience for the commuters and visitors in the town. Citing examples local alleged that garbage dumps could be seen littered across the whole Udhampur city but open garbage dumps opposite J& K Bank Domail, Opposite CMO office Udhampur being at centrally located give odd look to town Talking to Early Times, Ram Lal, Sandeep Kumar, Amit Mehra and Rajesh Sharma told that when people walk along the foot path or even drive their vehicles they have to pass through an odd experience as foul smell emitted from the garbage dumps make it worst for them. "People are prone to some dangerous diseases including respiratory diseases due to dirty environment, they said while alleging the Municipal Committee Udhampur too has failed to get the garbage lifted from these points on regular basis Irked over the in-action from concerned authorities, the locals said that we have urged Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Neeraj Kumar to take the issue with concerning department and direct them for the change dumping sites from the city and also to lift garbage before or by 10 amfrom within the city. Bank Manager of J&K Bank Housing Colony said, "Concerning department needs to lift garbage from the place near bank as hundreds of customers visit for banking services but it gives them an unusual experience when they have to pass by the littered garbage while visiting the bank. He said, "we have communicated to Office of DC Udhampur but response is still awaited. When contacted Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Municipal Committee Santosh Kotwal said that we are facing shortage of garbage lifting vehicles and the department is making best use of its recourses. He also added that they have written to higher authorities for more garbage lifting vehicles and hoped soon these will be proc. |
