Clashes claim another life in Anantnag, toll rises to 76 | IGP blames crowd | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report Anantnag, Sept 6: With the killing of another youth in Seerhamdan area of Anantnag district on Tuesday, the number of causalities in the ongoing unrest has risen up to 76. Reports said that this morning thousands of people assembled on Khanabal-Pahalgam road at Seerhamdan and held protests against the nocturnal raids. According to eye-witnesses, soon after the villagers started protesting, a contingent of police and CRPF arrived in the village to foil the protest march. They, according to villagers fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesters. During the clashes, due to pellets one youth identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat s/o Ghulam Hassan Bhat resident of Seerhamdan died on spot, reports said. A doctor at Sub-District Hospital Seerhamdan confirmed to early Times that Youth was brought dead in the hospital. "He had received pellets in his chest," doctor said. With Naseer's killing civilian death toll has reached 76 since July 9, 2016. Nearly 11000 civilians have been injured in last two months in retaliatory action by forces. Inspector General of Kashmir Police, S M Jilani blamed the crowd, who according to him provoked forces for firing pellets. "People there at Seerhamdan provoked forces for retaliatory action," he told ET. |
