Early Times Report

rajouri, Sept 6: Government Degree Colleges in the Rajouri still are grappling with the major problem of limited building infrastructure for conducting classes besides the teaching faculty.
Citing a glaring example, the Rajourities lamented that Government Degree College (GDC) Budhal in Rajouri district was inaugurated in 2008 with fanfare but just in five rooms of Government Higher Secondary School ironically the GDC since then it is being run at the same location as the successive governments have failed to provide building for this college.
More than 400 students have taken admission in the current academic session and college administration but are reportedly facing many difficulties in holding the classes.
Locals alleged that for political gains five colleges were opened at Thanamandi, Budhal, Kalakot , Nowshera and Sunderbani but the successive governments have failed to provide buildings for four colleges at Sunderbani, Kalakot, Nowshera and Budhal.
However it was August 30, Chief Minister Ms Mufti has inaugurated the new college building at Nowshera which was completed after five years that too with the individual efforts by Ravinder Raina, local MLA, B B Sharma, principal and officials of the JKPCC. Like GDC Budhal the Government Degree Colleges at Sunderbani, Kalakote still are running in the Govt Middle Schools buildings and lack of facilities is not taking toll of academics of students but also is discouraging the number of students.
Pertinent to mention, Education Minister while addressing the people at Nowshera has assured separate buildings for these colleges during current financial years.
"Whether he will succeed in fulfilling his promise, the time will tell but the students at these colleges facing many difficulties in pursuing their studies including acute shortage of permanent faculty, locals apprehend.
According to officials, in 2010 government had identified the land for college building at Budhal town and in the year 2014 the work was started by the PWD(R&B) department with a cost of Rs 10.97 crores and during last two years only ground floor could be constructed that too without any finishing touch.
Sharing further details, said YP Kundal, Principal said, "Rs 5.80 crores have already been released to the department but the construction work of the college building is moving on snail pace because the contractor has sublet the contract to another contractor." College Principal added despite the issue was raised several times with the higher authorities and the concerned contractor but nothing has been done till today and the construction work is still moving on snail's pace.
Upset over lack of facilities Zahid Mir, student leader GDC Budhal said that Last year Ch Zulfikar Ali ,CA&PD Minister and local MLA had assured that current academic session would be held in the new college building. "Where is new building?" he asked.
