17-yr old girl challenges writ of separatists | 'I was Indian, I am Indian, will remain Indian' | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 6: A 17-year-old girl from central Kashmir has stirred a hornet's nest by hoisting tricolor atop her residence in Budgam. "I was an Indian, I am an Indian and I will remain an Indian," said Shabroza who is a class 12 student. Some people including her friends have threatened her to take down the flag but Shabroza is adamant and says that she will die but she will not take down the flag. "People tell me that I should take down the Tricolor. But why should I take it down? I am an Indian. Let them threaten me. I am not scared of anyone." Shabroza daughter of a local BJP leader has created ripples in Budgam district as the locals, who are fed up of continuous shutdown and strikes are citing her example, sources told Early Times. They said, "Many people in Budgam are mulling to toe Shabroza's line as they are facing immense hardships due to the protest calendars being issued by separatists for the past two months." "We are the verge of facing starvation. The career of our children has been ruined as schools are closed and there seems no end to the ongoing violence. Miscreants have blocked all the roads. They don't allow people to open their shops. They (miscreants) pelt stones on security forces and run away. We are the ones who have to face the brunt. Lawlessness is prevailing everywhere," sources quoted locals as having said. They said, "Many people in central Kashmir are planning to join hands and take to the streets against the miscreants and separatists who have taken them hostage. These people are deriving sadistic pleasure by troubling the common people." It's in place to mention here that a few days ago residents of a village in central Kashmir had chased out the miscreants, who had tried blocking the road and pelting stones on the security force personnel. Local sources said that henchmen of separatists who are on prowl across Kashmir have threatened Shabroza and her family and have asked people to boycott them, but Shabroza is form on her resolve and is proving to be an inspiration for others, who sooner or later are likely to toe her line. "If government provides security to people and books the stone pelters life would return to normal within a few days. Its high time for the government to book Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik under PSA and lodge them in the jails outside the state," said an analyst. |
