SIT recommends registration of formal case
Engineering student's mysterious death

Jammu, Sept 6 : In the mysterious death of an engineering student of Amity University, SIT today filed the status report, recommending registration of a formal case and investigation of the matter under law. Meesam Ali Shah, son of Kabir Hussain Shah of Bathindi Morh, was brought dead to ASCOMS, Sidhra, on November 9, 2014. To investigate the matter, a SIT was constituted vide PHQ order No Legal/GB-01/J/2015/23808-14 on April 24, 2015 under the supervision of SP, City North. SIT today filed a status report in the high court in a petition filed by the victim's father, seeking expeditious completion of the inquest proceedings. In the status report, it is revealed that after obtaining the post-mortem and FSL reports, it became known that Meesam's death had occurred due to the combined effect of diacetyle morphine (heroin) and aluminum phosphide poisoning. The report said the death was not natural. While submitting the status report, SIT sad the inquest proceedings were closed for registration of a formal case and the case diaries were forwarded to the SHO of Bakshi Nagar police station with the direction to register a formal case and investigate the matter under law. The status report says that on November 8, 2014 night, Meesam came from Bathindi to Subash Nagar at the house of his friend Anurag Gupta, son of Sunil Kumar Gupta, where their common friend Tanveer Ahmed, son of Mohammad Sajjad Malik of Poonch was also present. Next day, he returned to his house at Bathindi at about 11 am in his personal car and came back to the Anurag's house at Subash Nagar at about 6.30 amand slept. At about 1 pm, he started vomiting as a result of which Anurag and Tanvir shifted him to Batra Hospital, Sidhra, where he was declared as brought dead by the concerned doctors and accordingly inquest proceedings under section 174 of CrPC were initiated at Sarwal police post on November 9, 2014.(JNF)
