Militants taking advantage of unrest: IGP Kashmir | Police identifies trouble makers | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 6: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Javaid Mujtaba Geelani Thursday said the militants were taking advantage of the ongoing unrest in the Valley and the security forces have again started anti-militancy operations. "Anti militancy operations were halted for some time. But now security forces have started anti-militancy operations to curb their influence on the current turmoil in the Valley," the IGP Kashmir said. Over the killing of a youth in south Kashmir on Tuesday, he said, "We have identified the people who create law and order problem in the state especially in south Kashmir. Security forces teams had gone to the area to arrest these trouble mongers but some people attacked security forces and didn't allow them to move ahead. Security forces were forced to use some force in which one youth got killed," he said. He said the security forces were using the pellets in the rarest of the rarest cases. The ongoing turmoil broke out in the Valley on July 8 following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani. The property worth hundreds of crores of rupees have been destroyed including some government offices and police stations have been set on fire by the protestors. Police have launched a manhunt and hundreds of people have been arrested who have been involved in stone pelting and vandalizing the property. Most of the arrests have been carried out in Kashmir's northern and southern districts. Police said these arrests have made "after proper verification of their involvement in protests and stone-throwing". A senior police official posted in south Kashmir said police have registered hundreds of cases for destroying the public and private property during the ongoing crisis in the Valley. He said police was ascertaining the details of the damaged property during the ongoing unrest and cases were being registered under Sections 148 (rioting), 427 (mischief), 336 (endangering life of others). The official said the police was collecting the CCTV footages and details across the Valley from other sources to identify the people involved in destroying the public property. "Presently we are busy in dealing with the law and order problem situation in the Valley. We will know exact details about the damaged property and those involved in these acts once normalcy prevails in the Valley," he said. A police spokesperson in a statement has said police has established helplines in the police control rooms of the respective districts for the general public who wish to inform regarding the "harassment by hooligans, stoppage and disruption of the traffic by miscreants, damage/arson of the traffic by miscreants, damage/arson to the public property or obstacles erected on roads/lanes". |
