Embezzlement worth lakhs in SSA surfaces in Balakot 9/6/2016 11:46:05 PM M S Nazki Early Times Report Poonch, Sept 6: Funds worth lakhs allocated for uniforms and construction of kitchens for midday meals in the schools under Sarv Siksha Abhiyan in Balakot area of this border district from 2012 to 2015 have reportedly been embezzled. The concerned incharge Zonal Education Officer Balakot Abdul Shakur with the connivance of his three henchmen working as General line teachers who spend more time in ZEO's office instead at their respective places of postings sources said, alleging that out of lakhs allocated, only few thousands were spent on the purchase of uniforms for school children from a Jammu based firm. These readymade uniforms were said to be undersize, Sub standard in quality and were tailored in a poor manner the sources further added. It is pertinent to mention here that Early Times had recently exposed scholarship scam in Mendhar, in which a team headed by Joint Director Education was assigned to probe; but a clean chit was given to concerned people involved in the scam by the team for reasons best known to them. Sources said that officials were hand in glove with the unscrupulous elements who do not want to reach the benefits of centrally sponsored schemes like SSA to the deserving, they added. The irony is that Chief Education Officer Poonch and District Development Commissioner Poonch were aware of the fact that SSA scheme is being exploited by the concerned quarters but still they failed to take any action under relevant laws, the sources added.
