APD visit: Refugees/DPs delegation reminds GoI of its promises made to displaced | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 6: A delegation of Displaced Persons and Refugees yesterday called on All Party Delegation (APD) here at Govt Guest House and appraised them about their long pending demands and also reminded the centre about its promises made to war affected people who are awaiting compensation and permanent settlement.. Former minister and senior Congress leader, Manjit Singh while interacting with the APD expressed serious concern over the ignorance of Government regarding settlement of refugees/displaced persons who were uprooted in 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan. Congress minister and other speakers said that Prime Minister Narindra Modi had assured refugees and DPs about their settlement but nothing happened on ground. It seems the GoI has forgotten its own promises made with the war affected people awaiting compensation and permanent settlement. Delegation warned if their demands are not considered, the refugees/DPs would be forced to come on roads to fight for their long standing demands. They also appealed the APD to grant reservation in jobs, higher education and package less than Rs 30 lakhs per family would not be acceptable to the refugees/DPs. Meanwhile condemning few MPs, Leader of delegation Mr Singh said, "On the one hand, GoI is playing appeasement policy of Hurriyat Conference or anti-nationalists and on other side they have turned blind eyes towards the suffering of the refugees/DPs. He also said that instead of helping refugees/DPs, they reduced compensation amount to Rs 5 lakhs which is not acceptable and also demanded compensation of land under defense and property right on the land under possession of DPs/ Refugees. |
