Bid to grab forest land foiled at Pahalgam | | | Saahil Suhail Anantnag, Nov 6: The bid of an influential family to grab a prime forest land allegedly with the help of a patwari was today foiled by locals. According to residents, the family was trying to occupy the land under the grab of disputed 60-c gazette issued by the Maharaja in 1944. "We spotted a few people and a patwari at Ganeshbal while they were trying to mark and fence a patch of forest land," Mohammad Jabber, a local resident said. Locals said they later brought the matter in notice of forest department officials, who reached the spot and chased away the land grabbers. "They tried to convince us that they had purchased the land from a Pandit family but we made it clear to them that no plots under 60-C have been identified," Shabir Ahmad Khawaja, a forest officer, said. When contacted, senior revenue officers said that they were unaware of such a development and hadn't directed the patwari to accompany any private party. |
