PDP leaders advise Govt to be soft towards separatists, miscreants | Security agencies unhappy, fear backlash; situation far from normal | | Kashmir Unrest
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 6: Jammu and Kashmir government mulling to release the stone-pelters and giving concessions to separatists has not gone well with many people, who have been working hard for the past four months to restore normalcy in the Valley. Sources told Early Times that a few PDP leaders have advised the party high command to ask Police and security agencies not to act against the miscreants and allow separatists to move around. "Soon after the unrest broke out in Kashmir in July this year most of the political leaders disappeared from the scene as the semblance of normalcy is returning, these politicians have reappeared and are advising the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take certain decisions, which can backfire," said a source. It's in place to mention here that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday hinted at releasing the youth arrested during past four months and asked the police and civil administration to find empathetic plan of action to contain the situation. "We will review those cases where students and first-timers are found to be involved. We will talk to their parents and get their assurances that their wards will not participate in protests in future. We can't go on arresting people. There should be a different and empathetic plan of action to contain the situation," the Chief Minister said. Sources said that situation in Kashmir is far from normal and indulging in experiments at this point of time can prove counterproductive. "Stone-pelting has not ended. Miscreants are burning schools, vehicles and shops. Henchmen of separatists are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that shutdown continues. Terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Hizbul-Mujahideen and JeM are openly threatening people and are pasting posters in different parts of Kashmir asking them not to resume their daily chores," said a source. He said, "Miscreants and protesters didn't disappear from the streets of Kashmir on their own. Police and security agencies had to work 24X7 to rein these anti-national elements, who were hell bent to burn Kashmir to implement the agenda of their masters sitting in Pakistan. If these miscreants are set free they would again rule the streets of Kashmir and damage everything that comes in their way." "The people who are advising the Chief Minister these days are the same people who deserted the government when Kashmir was burning. They didn't even visit their constituencies. Nor did they make any attempt to diffuse the tension. They didn't pay any heed towards the repeated directions of the Chief Minister to reach out to the people. Suddenly they have turned advisors and have become advocates of the separatists," said an official who did not want to be named. |
