Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 6: Proper power supply for the inhabitants of many hamlets/ villages in far flung areas in Rajouri district especially in the Pir Panjal ranges is still a distant dream despite tall claims by the officials of the department.
The inhabitants of these areas apprised Ch Zulfikar Ali, Minister for Food, Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FS&CA) about long unscheduled power cuts and snapping of power for days together in remote areas.
People alleged that the concerned officials were pathetically cold to their problems and complaints registered by them. "For the replacement of damaged transformers local PDD employees collect money from the villagers for its transportation and fitting and take months together to replace these damaged transformers" said Mohd Farooq a social activist.
Inhabitants of Ghambir Mughlan had recently held a protest demonstration against PDD officials alleging frequent unscheduled power curtailments for hours together. "People can be seen in long queues for hours together at grinding mills to get maize / wheat flour" said Akram Khan. They warned large scale protest demonstration if the electricity was not provided as per schedule.
According to official revenue records three villages and about 700 hamlets in far off areas in Rajouri district have not been electrified since Independence. Inhabitants of Bainala, Saroon ,Lalu Khetar, Pingagala, Dharoti and other hamlets in Kalakot tehsil have been waiting for electricity for the last 35 years.
"Since 1982 when the power was supplied in our adjoining village Triyath, we are waiting for power connections in our Panchyat . But the authorities despite several representations didn't bother to sanction the project" said Girdhari Lal, Panch.
Villagers said that it is a shame that despite several central Schemes for the electrification of all villages / hamlets, more than 300 families of this area are without electricity. "Government of India (GoI) has sanctioned Rs 50 crores for the electrification of all the villages and hamlets in Rajouri district . Out of which Rs 29 crores ( for first phase) has already been released by GoI to Ministry of Power Development" said Superintending Engineer ,PDD , Rajouri. He added 3 villages and more than 300 hamlets will be electrified during first phase under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jayoti Yojna ( DDUGJY) during current financial year. Similarly, dozen of hamlets in Nowshera tehsil situated along Line of Control (LoC) including Sarya, Makri, Daruni Gala, Thandi Kassi are without electricity since independence. Mohd Ishaq and Krishan Kumar said that the matter was raised several times with the concerned officers (PDD), tehsil administration and local MLA & MLC but without any action till today.
