Excise sleuths foil liquor smuggling bid, one held | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Nov 7: The Excise Department Jammu tightening its noose on violators of the various provisions of the J&K Excise Act in entire Jammu division, the excise sleuths during a naka checking arrested one liquor smuggler alongwith 108 bottles of whisky meant for sale in Punjab. "The accused has been identified as Amit Sharma s/o Shashi pal Sharma r/o Marheen Tehsil Hiranagar District Kathua," police said. Official spokesperson said, "In order to curb the menace of smuggling of Liquor from outside the state under the direction of worthy Excise Commissioner T Angchuk and under the active supervision of the Deputy Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur Rajesh Sharma and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem, the Excise Team Kathua under the command of Excise and Taxation Officer, Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta and Task Force officials of Toll post Lakhanpur laid a surprise naka." "During the naka checking, the excise sleuths intercepted a car (Swift-vdi) bearing registration number JK08C-4726 and on checking excise team found 108 bottles of whisky meant for sale in Punjab from Amit Sharma driving the car. "On this the accused Amit was arrested under various sections of J&K Excise Act 1958 while liquor and car was seized, spokesperson said. |
