SRINAGAR, Nov 7: The education department in Kashmir valley these days is solely focused on Board examinations that are going to start from November 14. This is despite the fact that examinations for the other classes in the schools in Kashmir have not been held due to the unrest that broke out on July 9.
Although, the first week of November is already over authorities in education department are yet to make any announcement with regard to future of thousands of students studying in different classes. These students are somewhat uncertain about their future as they don't know whether they have to appear in annual examination or not.
Pertinently, the annual examinations in government and private schools in Kashmir valley are concluded by first week of October following which fresh session begins. However, this year the annual examinations could not be conducted and as such uncertain future is all set to dawn upon the students of these classes.
Interestingly, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar seems to have forgotten his main job since he is talking about issues which are subservient to his main mandate. He is talking about the development of herbal gardens in schools while failing to utter a single word about the future of students studying in class right from Nursery to 9th and also 11th.
"The state government is criticizing separatists for causing damage to education sector in Kashmir while as it is doing nothing to inculcate confidence among the students. It seems that examinations this year are limited to classes 10th and 12th only while as there seems to be no such provision for other classes. The government is yet to make its stand clear over the holding of examinations other than 10th and 12th classes and this has created doubts among the mind of students," said Ali Mohammad, a parent.
It would be in place to mention here that students had hardly completed 50 percent of their syllabus when unrest broke out in Kashmir. Since the schools have remained shut over the past four months now the students are a worried lot about their future. They are not sure whether they have to appear in annual examination or not.
"The best solution to problems being faced by students of classes other than 10th and 12th is that education department should promote the students to the next class. This would ensure that students are relieved of the tension and as such they would concentrate studies of the next class. The education department should make the announcement without any further delay and further wastage of time should be avoided," said Mohammad Aslam, a teacher.
Many of the people opine that final result of the students should be based on their performance in the examination that was held by the time unrest broke out in Kashmir. This they say would give a sense of solace to the students who fared well in examination held earlier in the year. Whatever is the decision taken by the government the students continue to be worried about their future?
