On Darbar day, Govt functionary shows police how to help needy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 7: Amid traffic jam in Jammu city ahead of commencement of Darbar move offices Monday, when vehicles were stranded near Purani Mandi, a poor mother-daughter duo suddenly attracted attention of the bystanders. The girl, around 12-years-old, suddenly fainted as her mother helplessly held her in her lap on the busy route with no way to move out of the jam. Though almost everyone was looking at them, none afforded to help them given the massive jam en route. Some cavalcades were also seen stranded in the gridlock for around 20 minutes. This was when the door of a white Safari escorted by Gypsies opened and a man came out, rushing towards the helpless woman. It was Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Despite an instant advisory from his personal security officer that it was "unsafe for him" to move out in a chaotic traffic jam, Prof Mattoo went ahead. On reaching the mother-daughter duo, he inquired about the problem only to know that the girl had suddenly fainted and was yet to recover. Witnesses said Prof Mattoo offered lift to the woman saying he would take them to hospital. The poor woman couldn't believe her eyes that some "Sahib Ji" escorted by around dozen cops of his cavalcade had come to her rescue. But the woman hailing from Gajansoo village near Talab Tiloo found it "inappropriate" to travel in a VIP cavalcade. "Sahib Ji we are poor people, we are not used to such culture. We don't know how others will take it. But thanks for your gesture," the woman replied. Now Prof Amitabh took out his phone and called some official. In a minute a woman police official of the rank of SHO reached the spot in a Gypsy from the other side of the busy road. Prof Amitabh asked the lady cop to rush the fainted girl to hospital. "You don't worry, she will be fine," Prof Amitabh told the worried mother even as he checked the patient's pulse. By now many more policemen reached to the spot and started regulating traffic to pave way for patient to move out. Witnesses said this was when Prof Amitabh told some cops that they shouldn't wait for directives from their higher ups but rush out to help the needy in such situations. By now the woman police was taking the ailing to hospital, where she was believed to have been diagnosed of weakness. She was discharged after treatment. But the concern of Chief Minister's Advisor for the poor family didn't end by sending her hospital alone. Later in the day, the Advisor phoned the concerned hospital to inquire about her health. Sources said the Advisor was told that it was the case of a "poverty-stricken girl!" The government is likely to offer assistance to the needy family as a part of the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' scheme. |
