Srinagar, Nov 7: Even though the Education Department has issued a Night Roaster circular asking its employees to guard and protect educational institutions themselves, no end to burning of schools in Kashmir seems to be in sight.
On Sunday, another Government Higher Secondary School building was set ablaze taking the number of gutted schools to 28, while miscreatnts made an abortive bid to torch another school in Hanjin.
A police official told Early Times that some miscreants tried to torch Government Higher Secondary School at around 7:30 pm on 06 Nov but due to timely intervention of locals, police and Fire and Emergency Services the attempt was foiled.
Confirming the damage to the school, a Police officer added, "A laboratory room of the school building suffered partial damage in the incident."
At least 28 schools have been set on fire from the last three months in Kashmir and not a single arrest has been made in such incidents so far. Most of the schools have been burnt in the dead of the night by people who according to police are locals.
Continuous burning of schools is a concern for all Kashmiris, but instead of taking measures to stop such incidents, there has only been blame game between the government and those who are out of power.
However, the separatists are blaming 'agencies' for torching schools and the government on the other hand instead of taking measures to stop such incidents has issued a statement blaming "vested interests".
"If government believes that it is separatists who are triggering the protesters and burning the schools then what stops them from arresting the culprits," a local asked while talking to Early Times.
"Basically the government has politicized the education sector , which has pushed students to the wall. The students were seeking time for preparation, but the government was adamant on holding exams which may be another cause of burning of schools," he added.
