Congress lambasts BJP over OROP | | | Early Times Report Bishnah, Nov 7: Congress leaders today lambasted BJP led union government for betraying army personnel over One Rank One Pension (OROP). According to press release, a massive candlelight march/protest was held here this evening to expose the BJP-led Central Government's total mishandling of the One Rank One Pension issue related to the armed forces that had also resulted in the unfortunate incident of a former solider committing suicide in Delhi to register his protest. The gathering also protested against the Centre's undemocratic move in preventing Congress vice president Shri Rahul Gandhi from protesting against the high handedness of the Government in dealing with ex-servicemen community particularly in using force against the family of the deceased ex-servicemen, who were arrested and beaten up at a time when the body of their family member was lying in the hospital. Addressing the massive gathering, that included a strong contingent of ex-servicemen belonging to this entire border belt, senior Congress leader Mohinder Bhardwaj said that the act of preventing Gandhi from raising his voice on the issue of OROP and maltreatment of the former soldier's family, was absolutely undemocratic and a blatant attempt by the Narendra Modi to muzzle democratic values. He castigated the Government for its blatant lie on the issue of grant of OROP to the ex-servicemen. "If OROP had been implemented as the Government complains then why are the ex-servicemen persistently protesting on the roads demanding justice," he asked. Bhardwaj expressed shock that the saffron party has the temerity of blaming the Congress for politicising the issue. "Gandhi as a towering opposition leader belonging to a premier opposition party was only performing his democratic right of protest against the Government's injustice to our armed forces. Only a naive like the BJP leaders would describe it as a politicisation of OROP," he added. Questioning the self-proclaimed nationalistic credentials of Modi and his government, he said that recent steps such as disparity in 7th pay commission and that with civilian bureaucracy ranks convey a separate story. And this is nothing but their anti-armed forces stance. Among those who spoke on the occasion and participated in the candle march are Ashok Dubey, organising Secretary PCCI, Ashwani Puri, organsing Secretary PCCI, Ghanshyam Sharma, Darshan Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, ex Capt. P.L Sharma, ex Capt. Om Prakash, ex Capt. Harbans Lal, Sepy Krishan Lal, ex Nk. Balkrishan, Sub. Sohan Lal, Nk. Vijay Kumar, large contingent of ex service men, members of the congress party. |
