Chaktroo residents rile over acute water scarcity | | | Early Times Report Poonch, Nov 7: A sleepy village Chaktroo situated some thirteen kilometres from the Poonch town is facing acute shortage of from drinking water supply but the concerned authorities are least bothered. According to the reports, the villagers are fetching water from conventional water resources which are far away from the main village. Locals informed early times that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department some ten years ago started a Water Lifting Scheme for the betterment of people, but due to carelessness of district administration and higher authorities of concern department the scheme worth crores is lying defunct forcing people to face problems. "Due to alleged mismanagement of the PHE department, the water crisis has deepened in this village, sources said, adding with the alleged involvement of Executive Engender, AEE, Junior Engineer, Field staff having hands in glove with local politicians, the funds meant for water scheme have been misused. Sources further informed early times that the said scheme can provide the water supply to more than five thousands souls, if the department sincerely works to make the Water Lifting Scheme operational in the interest of common masses. Layaqat Taj Chouhan, Javed Ahmed and many other villagers allegedly said that the people were getting water from Pathri Gravity Scheme, but some vested interest elements within concerned department allegedly embezzled funds meant for the aforesaid water lifting scheme have left in non functional. When this reporter tried to contact Executive Engeenier PHE Abdul Qayoom to get his comments in this regard but he didn't pick his phone despite repeated calls. |
