Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 8: For allegedly making a false allegations against Muhammad Afzal Mir, who died several years back, his family members have served a legal notice on Education Minister Naeem Akther. The family, in legal notice, has referred the article written by the education minister titled "Two parables and the condemned man" and asked him to pay damages/compensation of Rs 60 lakh, failing which a defamation case would be filed against him. "You have published an article in a local English newspaper on October 11, 2016, wherein you have not taken any care of how the family of Mir will bear such contemptuous and baseless allegation while addressing Hurriyat's Syed Ali Shah Geelani," reads the notice. The family, in the legal notice served through their counsel, said Naeem Akther had not taken into consideration the emotions and reputation of the Mir family. "For your information, he was an employee of PHE department," they said. "You are not known to them. They don't know wherefrom you hail. You have committed such a mistake being an education minister. Such things are not expected from a well-versed, qualified person like you. You have not given a thought while publishing such an article to please the Hurriyat leader for opening of schools and neither sought any apology for this contemptuous language. Although my clients reserve the right to file an FIR against you for defaming their father who was not illiterate and who has never deposed this kind of prayer in a mosque," reads the notice. "You have not sought any apology although my clients have decided to file a defamatory suit against you and you have no defence as the article itself is a proof and explanatory evidence. So, why you shouldn't you be sued for defamation and a compensation of Rs 60 lakhs," it adds. "That this notice is issued to you in anticipation to pay the compensation Rs 60 lakhs to my client as a token of repentance. Otherwise you have to face court of law, hence this legal notice served upon you," it concludes. |
