Many leaders skip Geelani's meeting
All is not well in separatist camp

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 9: Even as senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has come under criticism for having invited "selected gathering" to decide future course of the ongoing agitation in Kashmir, many senior leaders stayed away from the event, giving birth to speculations.
Sources said senior leaders of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat remained conspicuous for their absence from the November 8 meeting which was attended by the "stakeholders."
Prof AG Bhat and Bilal Gani Lone did not participate in the meeting. Likewise, two faces of Hurriyat (JK) Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan were also conspicuous for their absence, though the duo claims to be close aides of Geelani.
Insiders said Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan are upset that Geelani sidelined them after joining hands with Mirwaiz and JKLF chief Yasin Malik.
Sources said last month at a meeting chaired by Prof Bhat at his office, the Hurriyat (M) leaders had alleged that Mirwaiz had been ignoring them by not taking them into confidence since June when his relations with Geelani improved.
The meeting had highlighted that none of the leaders from the Hurriyat (M) executive body were ever consulted over the issuance of the protest calendar.
While political analysts have taken a serious note of the absence of the senior leaders at Geelani's residence here, the separatist leadership is equally silent on the issue.
While Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik had called the meeting to hold consultations with the "stakeholders", sources said most of the invitees asked the separatist leadership why they had suddenly felt the need to seek their suggestions when they have been unilaterally leading the agitation for four months.
The daylong meeting held to evolve "future consensus" on the protest calendar ended inconclusively as the leadership couldn't take any concrete step to either go soft on the protest program or to intensify the same "in line with the needs of their handlers," said sources.
