Rajouri: Govt violates HC orders to benefit BJP worker | | | Early Times Report rajouri, Nov 9: Despite High Court ordering that the residents of twin villages of Nohoti and Varnara in Sunderbani here be distributed ration through the dealer who had been serving them for years, the Government has allotted the dealership to a BJP worker who is accused in several criminal cases. The residents of the twin villages said around 200 ration card holders had been procuring their supplies from Pretti Chadda, who was the authorized dealer for the area. The residents of villages comprising around 700 souls said the ration dealer was generous enough to even grant ration on credit and would never resort to any mischief. But, the villagers said, after BJP came to power in alliance with the PDP in 2015, the government allotted the dealership for the supplies to the twin villages to an "influential" BJP worker, who has "several police cases registered against him for attacks and other criminal offences." The villagers had resented the move and staged protests. Officials said subsequently a high level team comprising Tehsil Supply Officer and Assistant Director Rajouri visited the area where the residents presented a written memorandum that they want to take ration from Pretti Chadda only. Subsequently, the High Court issued directives on similar lines on July 9, 2015, the residents said. However, after over a year the government has again authorized the accused BJP worker to distribute ration in the area. The villagers said they have reservations for taking ration from him, as he has been accused of flexing muscles on poor people and that someday he would misuse this depot to exploit the people. "We have every apprehension that he will resort to frauds in distribution of ration only to mint fortunes. Otherwise why is he hell bent on grabbing this assignment when entire population of the twin villages is against him?" the locals said. "We live in a democracy. How can the government force decisions on us which are against us?" the locals asked. When contacted a senior official in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Deptt endorsed the people's problems. "Their complaints are genuine but we are under pressure from the political quarters," said the official asking not to be named. Meanwhile, the locals appealed the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali to intervene or else they would be left with no option but to take to streets. The BJP worker who had bagged the license to run the ration store could not be contacted for his comment. |
