Farooq loses his way | Those who destroyed J&K ask CM Mehbooba to quit | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: NC president Farooq Abdullah, who remained in hibernation for months, has returned to J&K to once again muddy the Indian waters in the state and create difficulties for CM Mehbooba Mufti. After his resurfacing, he has made many controversial statements and all against the CM and for Pakistan and separatists. On Tuesday, the frustrated and desperate Farooq Abdullah took a line that was not consistent with the line his son and NC working president Omar Abdullah had taken after the killing of Hizb terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8. Omar Abdullah on occasions more than one publicly stated that he was against the demand seeking resignation of Mehbooba Mufti and that he was also opposed to the demand seeking imposition of Governor's Rule in the state following the killing of Wani. His stand was that the CM had failed to control the situation and that she must act to restore peace in the Valley and redress the grievances of what he called stakeholders, including Pakistan and Hurriyat leaders. "I am not demanding her resignation," Omar Abdullah repeatedly said. Contradicting his own son, Farooq Abdullah demanded the resignation of Mehbooba Mufti and also batted for dialogue with the anti-nationals. "Mehbooba Mufti has failed to curb the current unrest in the Valley and burning of schools. She had taken no measures to bring the situation back to normal," he said, adding that the situation in the Valley was very alarming and the governments in the state and at the centre must wake up. "There is no doubt that the situation in the Valley is extremely bad and I hope in Delhi, the government will wake up and start thinking of how do we bring the Valley back to normalcy. I am very sorry that this lady (Mehbooba) is not effectively running the state and it will be better if she steps down," Farooq Abdullah was quoted as saying on the sidelines of a function held in Jammu. Farooq Abdullah also spoke against the line that PM Narendra Modi took on PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan on August 15 and said the LoC should be converted into International Border (IB). PM Modi had said PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan were Indians and India will retrieve them. In contrast, Farooq Abdullah said: "In my opinion, the ongoing spell of killings will not lead to any solution. Borderline will remain as it is. Neither Pakistan will be able to get this side of Kashmir nor will India be able to bring back that side of Kashmir. The only solution is that the Prime Minister should immediately hold talks with Pakistan. We should not talk because we are weak. We are powerful but we want to move ahead with peace". Who has given the comprehensively defeated Farooq Abdullah to speak against the national resolve on PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan? None. He represents none. Nor the NC has any mandate to poke its nose in matters of bilateral nature between India and Pakistan. Indian Foreign Office is very much there in New Delhi and its is discharging its duties. Farooq Abdullah's suggestion that Mehbooba Mufti should quit is obnoxious and politically motivated. He has no right to put forth such demands. He has forgotten that he fled away to London after quitting the government in January 1990 and returned to J&K only in 1996, when Prime Minister Narasimha Rao had broken the backbone of the separatists and restored peace in Kashmir. But more than that, he has forgotten what happened in Kashmir in 2010, when Omar Abdullah was at the helm. That time, Kashmir remained disturbed for more than two months and 120 hooligans were killed. Did he ask his son to quit? No, he didn't. Farooq Abdullah should revisit 1990 and 2010 to see what he and his son did and then ask CM Mehbooba to quit. |
