Amid panic, anger Jammu manages day without 'currency' | But Health sector shows inhuman face, docs turn insensitive….! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 9: Amid sentiments of panic, anger, confusion and chaos on one side, with praise and support to the government decision on its war against black money on the other hand, Jammu like other cities exhibited mixed reactions to the move. As people managed to push things on all other fronts without low denomination currency notes, it was the Health sector and medical fraternity which showed its inhuman face to them, turning crisis like situation at many places throughout the day. Even as the large crowds gathered at ATMs after declaration by PM Narendra Modi on the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes last night, not many people could manage to get currency notes of Rs 100 or less than that to manage their routine life expenditure for the day. Hardships were inevitable, though people managed the day with small amounts they had in their kitty or by borrowing it from friends and relatives, making it not a much difficult situation on day one, that is today. However, there are complaints galore from across the city which scores of people had to face today in the most important Health sector with various sections associated with showing an utterly inhuman face to one and all seeking treatment, investigations or other related examinations for their ailments. While private hospitals simply refused to accept the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes despite repeated announcements from the government that this sector shall have to oblige the patients and those in need of their help, even the doctors turned insensitive and merciless throughout the day at most of the places. "When I took my mother suffering from kidney ailment to a well known doctor in the city I was refused an appointment for the reason that I had no lower denomination currency notes….even the doctor whom I begged to examine my mother looked callous contending he too was helpless..", said Aashutosh Gupta of Kacchi Chowni. Even the pathological labs shut down their shops and same was for some chemist shops in many areas of Jammu, said Santosh Sharma who faced a marathon like experience for some medicines which she was denied at many outlets for want of Rs 100 currency notes. Some chemist shops which were open simply pleaded helplessness as they said what they would do with Rs 500 notes after two days, perhaps unaware of the directions from the government that Chemists have been asked to accept these notes for two days. |
