Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9: The Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, Prof RD Sharma, today termed the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani as 'unfortunate'. Talking to media on the sidelines of a function, Prof Sharma said the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley is alarming and the security agencies should have detained Wani instead of killing him. "It would have been better had Burhan Wani been captured alive instead of being killed in an encounter," he said. He said that the Valley would not have been in turmoil if the Hizbul commander had been caught alive. "Burhan Wani should not have been killed. He should have been arrested and even put behind bars for life. This would have spared Kashmir of all the death and destruction that it suffered in the past four months," Prof Sharma said. The VC's observations were an echo of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who had said that had it been known that Burhan was in the hideout, he could have been given a chance (to escape). The remarks of the VC come in the backdrop of reports that he wants extension in his tenure as the VC of JU. |
