PSUs surrender to diktats of ministers, babus | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 9: The state-run Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) which are facing huge financial crisis, are battling another type of challenge: diktats of ministers and bureaucrats. Many corporations have attached scores of vehicles with ministers, higher official and the staff of the administrative department at the Civil Secretariat. Sources said the corporations who have taken lead in attaching their vehicles with the higher ups in the Secretariat are bearing the brunt of expenditure of POL and salary/wages of the drivers. An official of J&K Cements told Early Times that the corporation had allotted one Bolero with ministerial staff, another to officer in Industries and Commerce, and an Ambassador car to higher official Industries and commerce. Similarly, sources said that SCIOP has extended facility to commissioner secretary industries with one Scorpio and a Bolero to a minister and one Ambassador to Finance section, Industries and Commerce Department after having purchased few new vehicles. Similarly sources said that JK Industries, which for the last 20 years did not shown any major turnover and is accumulating losses, has purchased new vehicles for extending facilities to higher ups. Sources said that SIDCO is also in the race and has attached three vehicles with ministerial staff and the Secretariat. Sources said that the constitution of these corporations does not permit such arrangements which are in contravention to rules and regulations. The insiders stated that with the purchase of new vehicles, a fresh illegal appointment of the drivers is made, which goes unnoticed, as these vehicles remain attached with the higher ups. |
