Ceasefire violation by Pak troops in north Kashmir continues | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 10: Pakistani troops continued to violate ceasefire on Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, targeting forward Indian posts in Machil and Keran sector since during the past 24 hours. A soldier was killed yesterday in the Pakistan firing in Machil sector. A defence ministry spokesman said details about the ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops today are awaited. However, official sources said Pakistani troops today opened a new front and resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing in Keran sector, targeting forward posts on the LoC. "Our troops also effectively retaliated and targeted Pakistani troops posts," they said, adding intermittent shelling continued since late last night. There was no report of any loss of life on the Indian side of the LoC, they added. Intermittent ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops also continued in Machil sector since yesterday. The spokesman confirmed that a soldier was killed in Pakistan firing yesterday. He said Indian troops also retaliated and hit a number of Pakistani bunkers. The sources said Pakistani troops are resorting to shelling and firing to provide a cover to militants to sneak into this side from the PoK, where a large number of militants are waiting to cross over to this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall. Residents of the Machil and Keran sector said they heard intermittent explosions throughout the night. "We are worried and are staying in ground floor or shifted to safe places," the residents said, adding they were praying for peace on borders since the eruption of tension between India and Pakistan. They said they were living in peace since two countries agreed for ceasefire in 2003. |
