Transporters give ultimatum to separatists | 'Call off shutdown or face rebellion' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 10: Transporters in Kashmir have reportedly asked the separatists to call off the shutdown or face the rebellion. The development came a day after separatists issued yet another protest calendar giving relaxation for three days in a week that too during the evening hours. Sources told Early Times a delegation of transporters called on Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik at their respective residences in Srinagar on Thursday morning."They (transporters) apprised them about their grievances and appealed to them to provide relaxation in protest calendar so that transporters could ply their vehicles on the road and earn their livelihood," they said, adding that transporters apprised them about hardships they have been facing from past four months. Insiders revealed that transporters told separatists that if they don't call off the strike they would be left with no other option other than plying their vehicles without bothering for consequences. "We are at the verge of facing starvation. We can't sit in our homes and die. We have to feed our families and have to repay the loan which we have taken from the banks. If the strike is not called off we won't be able to sustain anymore," sources quoted transporters as having said. Insiders said that separatists failed to give any satisfactory answer to the transporters and told them they would look for ways and means to address their concerns. "Separatists failed to give them any assurance leaving them (transporters) high and dry," they added. Sources said that transporters have decided to raise a banner of revolt and roll their vehicles on the roads and take on the miscreants who would try to disrupt their movement and the vehicles with the stones. A Kashmir watcher said, "If separatists continue with the shutdown calls there is every possibility about their detractors fighting with their supporters on the streets of Kashmir, which can lead to breaking out of full fledged civil war in Kashmir. Separatists should see the writing on the wall and give up their rigidity." |
