Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 10: Shanti Path Trust (SPT) in the 32nd free medical camp held in a small insignificant village named Chillar of block Dansal on 30th Jun 2016 and found that out of one hundred and forty six eye patients thirty six were identified for implantation of IOL.
It is strange that in spite of Govt of India sponsoring the programme of eradication of blindness for last so many years for the purpose, Govt agencies have not been able to reach out to these pockets to help out poor and really needy people.
It was revealed by SPT that they shall reach out to more of these remote areas and carry out a mission of making them Motia-Mukt. Though SPT does organize regular multispecialty camps, however with these findings the trust has decided to lay special emphasis on eradication of blindness.
It was learnt from staff of SPT that HoD Eye Deptt of GMC & H has always been very accommodative and helpful to SPT towards this mission.
Currently free multispecialty medical camp was being conducted in association with Govt Medical College and Hospital(GMC & H),Indira Gandhi Govt Dental college(IGGDC), Ayurvedic Hospital and Navjivan Hospital at village Churta , block Dansal an area about four km in an interior from JK national highway, on 9th Nov with six specialties' viz Eye specialist team of Drs Priyanka, Surbhi, Abhimanu and Kiran from GMC & H, Dental specialist team of Drs Paramjeet Singh,Varun, Momtaz Ali, Mohd Kalil and Mohd Ali from IGGDC, team of Ayurvedic Drs Neetu Handu, Bhanu Priya,Shifali and Mohinder Singh/Ichpal Singh from Ayurvedic Hospital ,Gynaecologist Dr Jasveer Kaur from Naranjan Hospital, Occupressure expert V K Nanda and Physiotherapist R K Nanda.
Seven hundred and twenty four patients took advantage of the camp. Eye deptt screened one hundred and fifty eight patients and twenty cases were identified for cataract operations which shall be conducted by Dr Dinesh Gupta, Professor and Head of Department of Ophthalmology and his team of doctors at GMC & H on 14th Nov.
Dr Jasbir Kaur had thirty eight gynae cases. Dental team treated one hundred and twenty cases to include scaling, extraction, GIC filling and Zuo filling. V K Nanda had sixty nine cases of acupressure and R K Nanda covered fifty cases. Free medicines as per the prescription of doctors were provided to all patients. It will not be out of place to mention that SPT has in last thirty four camps got operated five hundred and twelve patients for cataract.
The operations are conducted at GMC & H, however SPT provides all oral medicines/eye drops/lenses/injections/dark glasses etc required for operations and its follow up besides facilitating the patients in administrative back up. An exemplary feature of this camp was that all administrative work was performed by village ladies led by the team leader Sheetal Sharma.
