Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 10: Continuing the candle march protests campaign, the Congress today held candle march at Akhnoor, Khour and Doda in Jammu Province over the issue of One Rank One Pension Scheme and the failure of the Centre and State Govt. on various fronts.
A protest was held at Akhnoor led by former Minister and Senior Vice President Sham Lal Sharma. A large number of congress activists and ex-servicemen participated in the protest march over the issue of failure of Modi Govt. to implement One Rank One Pension and its failures on various fronts.
Addressing the protestors Sham Lal Sharma charged the Modi Govt. of hoodwinking the ex-servicemen and spreading falsehood over OROP and on various other vital commitments made to the people during the general elections in the Country.
He said that the ex-servicemen lodged strong protest and launched a decisive struggle to force the Modi Govt. to implement the OROP scheme which was already announced and sanctioned by the UPA Govt. in February 2014. However, the scheme was not implemented in toto and still the ex-servicemen are agitating and seeking parity and equality of pension of the same rank irrespective of the date of retirement, which clearly indicates that Modi Govt. is misleading the nation over this issue.
He also expressed grave concern over the border situation and the plight of border residents who have been the victim of the failure of the Modi government's flip-flap policies towards Pakistan.
He said that the Prime Minister went to Lahore to greet Nawaz Sharief without taking lessons from the past experiences especially the earlier visit of Prime Minister Vajpayee to Lahore. As compared, there was almost calm on borders during ten years of UPA rule. He said that the promises made to the border residents were not fulfilled by the BJP Govt. as a result they are facing the brunt of the current situation. He also accused Modi Govt. of total failure on all fronts and lashed out at the unprecedented price hike which has broken the back of poor and common man.
Similar protests were held at Khour which was led by former Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand. A large number of congress workers ex-sevicemen and activists of Block Congress Committee joined the protest march raising slogans and carrying placards against the Centre Govt. over the failure of fulfilling the commitment of OROP and on various other fronts. Tara Chand lashed out at the BJP Govt. at the Centre and the Coalition Govt. in the State for their failure on all fronts as a result different sections of the society are agitating and suffering.
