MHA takes control, asks security agencies to act against separatists | Malik arrested, more detentions likely | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 10: A day after separatists issued yet another protest calendar, Police and security agencies on Thursday decided to tighten the noose around them. Sources told Early Times the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken a strong note about Jammu and Kashmir government allowing separatists to move around and giving them a freehand. Following the directions from the MHA the Police swung into action and arrested the so-called JKLF chief Yasin Malik from his Maisuma residence in Srinagar today. Sources said, according to the inputs, received by the security agencies Yasin Malik is trying his best to keep the pot boiling and he is dead against calling off the strike, "During the recent meeting of stakeholders, Malik had asked his aides to oppose the idea to call off the shutdown," sources added. They said, "The MHA has asked the security agencies not to wait for the separatists to call off the shutdown and take all the steps to end the present unrest in the Valley. The Police and other law enforcing agencies have been told to ensure re-opening of schools in Kashmir and provide adequate security to the shopkeepers and the transporters so that they can resume their daily chores." Insiders revealed that Malik in order to prove his supremacy over, Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, is acting like a hardliner to prove that he is the "supreme leader.""The shutdown being pro-longed in Kashmir has become a prestige issue within the separatist camp," they added. Sources said, "When Mirwaiz and Malik were released last month they had assured the administration that they would help in restoring the normalcy in Kashmir but after coming out they changed their tactics and started playing into the hands of their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC)." Mirwaiz, according to the sources, had got it conveyed to Malik and Geelani that they should consider giving relaxation in the protest calendar but his suggestion was turned down and protests were staged outside Geelani's residence on Tuesday to indicate that people want shutdown to continue. Sources said that law enforcing agencies had conveyed it to the MHA long back that releasing separatists won't serve any purpose. "People at the helm had advised the state government not to release the separatists and their aides. Had these people been kept behind bars by now situation in Kashmir would have been normal," said a source. He said, "Now directions are clear. People, who would enforce shutdown, resort to stone pelting and arson would be arrested and booked under PSA. Raids would intensify in coming days and the miscreants would be taken to task." |
