Farmers face hardships in procuring seeds, fertilizer | Old Rs 500 currency notes not being accepted by dealers | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 28: The decision of central government to demonetize high denomination currency notes is bringing a lot of hardships for the farming community as they are not able to procure fertilizer and seeds even as dealers of the same have been directed to accept Rs 500 notes till December 15, 2016. While the Rabi season is on, the farmers are finding it difficult to buy fertilizers and seeds due to heavy cash crunch. A large number of farmers said that time period given to use old Rs 500 notes for purchasing seeds and fertilizers is too less as during Rabi season they have to procure fertilizers for several times since there usage is a continuous process. They further said that despite clear directions of the central government that the farming community is allowed to use old Rs 500 notes till December 15 but the dealers are refusing to accept them which is causing problems for the farmers. Some farmers while expressing anguish said that the farming community is bearing the brunt of demonetization more than anybody else as the farmers are unable to purchase fertilizers and seeds adding even they are not getting loans as every bank is overburdened due to the huge rush of people depositing old currency notes. |
