BJP MLAs have 'better things' to do than paying tributes to late leader | Unaware about Bharti's contribution, MLAs, leaders stay away | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 28: BJP MLAs, it seems, have better things to do than to attend condolence meeting held on Sunday to pay tributes to the departed leader BansiLal Bharti, thanks to their 'own' set of priorities which kept them away from this courtesy gesture. Despite having government vehicles and other facilities at their disposal, they could not make it to the meeting, a highly complacent attitude in sharp contrast to how the octogenarian leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta managed to reach for his cremation on the wheel chair. State unit of BJP had organized 'shouk sabha' in the party premises on Sunday to pay tributes to late leader whose contribution to the growth of party in the state is considered to be immense in many ways. Sources said though Bharti always maintained a low profile, he worked all through his life to help state unit of party evolve as a strong political party. In the backdrop of his huge contribution his stature was as high and par with veterans of his time at the national level, sources said adding that most of the senior party leaders who attended the condolence meeting know it well. However, majority of 'Modi wave' MLAs of the party who are neither aware of history and past of the party and those whose contribution has raised party to present day popularity nor do they make any effort to get to know or acknowledge their hardwork and the conviction such leaders had for the party. Sources said while few ministers including Deputy Chief Minister and some senior leaders attended the condolence meeting, paid tributes and recalled Bharti's contribution, most of the MLAs deemed it perhaps as something insignificant a task. Surprisingly, many of them belong to the community he represented and despite the late leader having worked hard in his capacity as a senior, experienced leader to garner support during last Assembly elections, they showed they were least bothered to pay tributes to him, sources said. Even some senior leaders of the party who otherwise make their presence felt on every occasion within the party and outside functions associated with affluent and VIPs, deemed it not proper to pay respect to Bharti, not even as a formal gesture. |
