In Forest Deptt- Sheep husbandry dispute, police accused of taking sides for lunch | Namak Halal! | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 28: In a chronic dispute between the Wildlife and Sheep Husbandry departments over relocation of Sheep Breeding Farm from Dachigam National Park here to elsewhere, the police has been accused of taking sides only because one of the parties hosted lunch to "lure the cops." Official sources said on November 26 police was called to the disputed site to ensure that none of two parties take law its own hands and that the Forest department is able to lock the office of the Sheep Husbandry department in accordance with the directives of the government. Source said while the dispute was on since the early hours of Saturday things took ugly turn only after one of the two departments took a lunch break. Sources said one of these departments had got special food prepared out of fresh sheep meat. Sources said the host employees whispered into the ears of the cops present to come and have lunch with them. "After relishing a heavy lunch, the police sounded different. As the employees of the two departments clashed each other the police used batons but only on employees of one of the departments," the witnesses said. On Monday as the offices reopened the government top brass in Jammu was informed about the issue. The employees of aggrieved department told their superiors that police resorted to foul play. "See basically police couldn't take bribe from either of the parties as the issue pertained to the government itself so this was when lunch party played its nefarious role," said an official. Established in 1961, the Sheep Breeding and Research Farm spreads over 1500 kanals in the Dachigam National Park. The shifting of the farm from Dachigam National Park has been a bone of contention between Wildlife department and Sheep Husbandry department for last few decades. The Wildlife department believes that interference of sheep in habitat of endangered Hangul or Kashmir stag is responsible for its declining population. However, the Sheep Husbandry department refutes the theory blaming the Wildlife department for failing to take scientific measures for Hangul conservation. When contacted a police official, however, refuted that his men had lunch with either of the parties. "We were doing our duty," he said. |
