Influential SHO enjoys plum postings for a decade | DGP's orders violated | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 28: In brazen violation of the orders issued by the Director General of Police, a powerful SHO has been enjoying plum postings in Jammu province for the past around a decade. In 2003, the DGP had issued orders that police officials working as SHO after serving 48 months as head of thana should be sent to other wings of police like Crime Branch, Vigilance or Traffic. Officials said the orders were aimed at bringing "rationality and transparency in the system." But in case of this "influential" SHO, who allegedly enjoys patronage of a senior BJP minister, he continues to be heading police stations since 2007. Infact, officials said, all his postings have been at prize locations. He has been SHO for Jammu, Ramban, Batote, Sambha, and Nowshehra police stations. Presently he is again enjoying posting at a key police station in Rajauri district. Though crime graph has been on the rise and numerous complaints of corruption have been pouring in, this influential official continues to enjoy "blessings of his political bosses." "Basically we have been helpless in his case as he enjoys some really strong political connections," said a police official asking not to be named. The unbridled power to head police stations in violation of orders issued by the DGP has made this SHO a topic of discussion in the police department. "If other SHOs are sent away from police station postings after every four years, may we ask the DGP and IGP Jammu why this special treatment with this blue eyed boy?" said some of his colleagues adding "this is sheer injustice."Officials said this SHO started his career from Traffic police department. "As per norms, after posting in traffic police he could not be posted as SHO, as it happens to be a very sensitive posting, but all rules were flouted in his case," said a senior official in the Home department. When contacted a senior police official said "you better contact DGP on this." Despite repeated attempts the DGP could not be contacted for comments. |
