Illegal constructions on riverbed galore at Mendhar 11/28/2016 11:49:00 PM M S Nazki Early Times Report Poonch, Nov 28: Some people are alleged to be busy in making constructions on the riverbed at Gohlad in Mendhar area of the district in violation of the concerned SDM's directions in this regard. They were alleged to be making illegal constructions with the consent of some revenue officials. The land falls under khasra No 680 and 552 at Gohlad near Sangala Chowk. "The construction is on but no revenue official has so far visited there," official sources alleged. SDM Sher Singh had issued a letter No SDM/1021-25 on October 29, 2016, noting that encroachment of riverbeds could lead to huge damages to public property and obstruct natural and smooth flow of river waters. "At a time when the whole world is concerned about the threats it is faced with due to the changes in environment because of human errors, we will not allow any kind of harm to nature. Any sort of construction is strictly prohibited on riverbeds and anybody violating rules will face the severe consequences as per the law of the land," SDM's letter says. He had directed Mendhar tehsildar and SHO of Mendhar police station to look into the matter and take prompt action against the culprits. Tehsildar Shehzad Khan had forwarded the letter to naib-tehsildar, Mendhar, Aftab Hussain Shah vide letter No OQ/1392 on October 29, 2016. Shah had brought the matter to the notice of Mendhar police station vide his letter No NTM/81 on November 12, 2016. Though police were directed to stop the illegal construction forthwith, the construction work was still on. When the matter was brought to the notice of SDM, he assured to enquire into the matter at the earliest and take apposite action against the culprits.
