Chattral locals allege PHE supplying 'unsafe' drinking water | | | Early Times Report
Mendhar, Nov 28: Residents of Chattral of Mughal Mohalla Mendhar of Poonch district today alleged that they are forced to drink contaminated water due to leakage in supply pipes at several places but Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is in deep slumber. While talking to Early Times, the local alleged that field staff of PHE Sub division Mendhar seems to be least bothered about the leakages in main supply pipes. "These leakages are plugged with polythene and dirty cloth pieces which often allows the sewage and dirty water to seep in the main supply pipe causing water contamination," they lamented. "We are forced to drink the contaminated water," they added. Locals said that concerned AEE-PHE Sub Division and other PHE employees now and then have allegedly withdrawn lakhs of rupees for repair works without carrying out the work on ground zero. "There are apprehensions that water borne diseases may break out in the Mendhar town as authorities seem least bothered about the quality of the water being supplied to people. Both Chairman Balakote Youth Club Er Majid Khatana and Gen Secy of Club Er Mustaq Jatt have urged Chief Engineer PHE Jammu to intervene in the matter and ensure proper drinking water supply to people of remote area. |
