Anantnag, Dec 16: Renovating and repairing the residential quarters at Housing Colony Khanabal, allotted to politicians and middle rung workers of some political parties has created liabilities in crores at R&B Division Khanabal, Anantnag.
Official sources told Early Times that the renovation works were executed beyond budgetary allocation. They said that department has spent 10 to 15 lakh rupees on each residential quarter which has created huge liability apparently in crores in the division.
Executive Engineer R&B Division Khanabal, in a meeting held at Dak Banglow Khanabal last month which Commissioner Secretary R&B Rohit Kansal chaired, disclosed that renovation of residential quarters in Housing Colony Khanabal has created huge liability.
"Sir, Housing Colony is big problem for us here. We have renovated and are renovating these residential quarters but don't have sound budget. Works executed till have created liability of rupees 1 crore. So it is requested to provide more funds for renovating the quarters," Executive Engineer Mohammad Ayoub was heard telling Commissioner Secretary.
In his response, Rohit Kansal expressed shock. Seconding his Executive Engineer, Chief Engineer said, "Yes it is problem."
Executive Engineer informed the Commissioner Secretary that those residing in residential quarters were demanding even home appliances for their comfort. "They (Leaders) are demanding LED TV's. It is extremely difficult," he pleaded.
Sources said that it was R&B Minister who firstly got his Quarter (NO.15) renovated. Following the suit, MLA too have asked the R&B department to renovate his allotted quarter.
Some unknown political workers, believed to be close associates of R&B Minister have also managed to repair their quarters.
Work is also going on the quarter of PDP leader Peerzada Mansoor Hussain who lost last 2014 assembly election. Quarter allotted to Peer Shabir who is brother of Peerzada Mansoor Hussain is also being renovated, revealed sources.
Others whose residential quarters were renovated or are being renovated including PDP Leader Mufti Sajad, MLC Sofi Yousaf, Nazir Ahmad Ganie, Abdul Salam Tantary, Abdul Ganie Wagay, Jahangeer Ahmad Khan.
Last year, R&B department has renovated the quarters allotted to MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri and MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Kaloo.
Pertinent to mention here, a sum of rupees 2500 is being paid to R&B Department by the allotees as rent, however the demands and renovation works have created huge liabilities.
