Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 16: The Congress, which has made serious allegations against a top BJP for his alleged role in giving clearance for a housing project for some personal benefits, has suddenly gone silent on it.
Sources said the Congress state unit was asked to go silent on the directions of its senior central leadership.
According to the sources since the project involved a senior BJP leader with links in the upper and elite circles of the Congress at the Delhi had used his influence to silence the growing criticism before it could have gathered more momentum.
Sources said there is also a strong possibility that some top leaders were also probably given tangible material benefits to not again rake up this issue.
"Corruption is becoming a hot thing now. The Congress is taking it to target the PM Modi. And, here was the case which on the platter of the Congress and could have been pushed to the national level. But suddenly after firing only one salvo of the allegations, they went silent all of a sudden. It couldn't have happened just like that. There was strong message from the top and also some local Congress leaders were also pacified," said a senior Congress leader.
Sources said that the cue to the clearance of the project was given to the Congress leadership by one of its sympathisers to beat the BJP on its own trough of 'morality'. However, they suddenly developed cold feet.
Sources said the top Congress leader, who is also very close to the Congress president made her issue directions to the local leadership to not touch this topic.
"Once these directions were issued then some influential people in the Delhi also chipped in and the matter was laid to rest before it could gain any momentums. The Cong, like BJP, too had many chinks in its armoury so they didn't want to face the heat latter. Both parties to settle the matter to mutual convenience," said the leader.
