Protest break out after Friday prayers
INSAS rifle snatched, 9 year old injured

srinagar, Dec 16: A nine year old child was injured after he was hit by a stone during stone pelting incident at Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. At the same time panic gripped Makhama village in Budgam district after an INSAS rifle was snatched by some unidentified persons during a protest demonstration.
Reports said that immediately after the culmination of Friday prayers a group of people appeared in the main Sopore chowk and started pelting stones on police as well as security forces personnel posted there. While the area was busy with activities the stone pelting incident led to chaos in the entire Sopore area.
A police spokesman while giving details about the incident said that immediately after the culmination of Friday congregational prayers, some miscreants in order to intimidate civilians started disrupting normal life by pelting stones upon the deployment at Main Bazar, Sopore.
"During the stone pelting one nine year old passerby Mursaleen Azad Dar son of Azad Ahmad Dar resident of Batapora, Sopore was hit by a stone and received head injury. He was immediately rushed to hospital for medical treatment. Sopore police has registered a case and investigation has been taken up," said the police spokesman.
Panic gripped the Makhama village in Central Kashmir's Budgam district after unidentified persons snatched one INSAS rifle of a policeman during clashes in the area. The rifle was snatched from the cop who was injured during clashes in the area. The cop identified as Liyaqat Ahmad was hit on head. He was shifted to Sub District Hospital at Magam.
Reports said that a procession was taken out in Makhama after the Friday prayers. Some youth who were part of the procession pelted stones on cops deployed in the area. The stone pelting was responded by teargas shelling. During the melee some of the youth managed to snatch an INSAS rifle from one of the cops and fled from the spot. The clashes spread to the nearby Badran area in Magam.
A police spokesman said that in Budgam, a scuffle took place in the afternoon immediately after the Fridaybetween two groups over some issue at Makhama under the jurisdiction of police station Magam. Police reached the spot immediately to restore normalcy and bring order among the unruly groups. In the Srinagar city intense clashes took place between youth and police as well as security forces in the Batmaloo area and some localities of downtown city. Clashes in downtown broke out after the Friday prayers with some of the youth waving Pakistani flag as well. Police and security forces resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the stone-pelting civilians.
