NHPC labourer falls from hillock, dies | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Dec 16: A 46-year-old labourer, engaged by a contractor of NHPC, died after falling from a hillock where he was doing grouting work at dam site of 390 MW Dool Hasti Power project, about 20 km from here. The dead was identified as Abdul Qayoom, son of Imam Din of Darmund, Batote. Police sources said the incident took place at about 1 pm on Thursday while he was filling the gaps in rocks with concrete to stop them from slipping into the river. While coming back from the hillock, he slipped from a height of about 200 ft and fell on ground, resulting in on the spot death. The body was later shifted to the district hospital, Kishtwar, where post-mortem was conducted on it. The body was later handed over to his family members for last rites. Police had initiated inquest proceedings into the incident. The Labour Union has demanded an inquiry into the alleged negligence on part of contractor. It was alleged that contractors were flouting labour laws and not following safety norms in letter and sprit. |
