Protest sparked over bootleggers death in Jammu, Police Post vandalised, vehicles damaged | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 16 : Protest sparked today over an alleged custodial death of a bootlegger who was arrested on December 13 with illicit pouches in Gajansoo area on city outskirts here. Hundreds of protestors, including family of one Rinku, resident of village Gajansoo, this morning barged into the Police Post Gajansoo alleging that he died after being mercilessly thrashed by the police in custody. Rinku, who was reportedly arrested on August 13 with pouches of illicit liquor, according to police was released last night on bail. Shouting anti-police slogans, protestors barged into the police post and vandalised the building. Policemen tried to disperse the protestors but they pelted stones at them and ransacked the property of the police post. Angry mob however, also damaged around five two-wheelers, a car and a police van. They threw the motorbikes and a scooter into the nearby canal, which was later with the help of locals and police contingent taken out of the water. The demonstrators were demanding justice and later shifted the body to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu. |
