Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 18: Merely 14, Meenal Gupta, is an international name in the field of chess as she has a won gold medal in the under- 14 commonwealth chess championship held at Sri Lanka earlier this year. Fascinated by the chequered board at a tender age of 9 years when she had an opportunity to watch international grandmaster event at Chennai, she took to the game whole heartedly and started practicing and understanding the intricacies of the game. Five years since then, she has won over 50 national and international events in her age group. "My first coach and mentor is my father Atul Kumar Gupta who always encouraged me and later I started training under Vivek Bharti Gupta who made me what i am today", she said, adding that she used to take small private training sessions from three other international masters from Kolkata, Mumbai and Haryana. "My aim is to become international grandmaster in chess and senior women world champion", she added further. Her other achievements include First position in u-15 Girl's category in south Asian Amateur chess championship 2016, silver medal in National school chess championship at New Delhi 2014, 10th rank in national U-13 chess championship at Gurugram, 2nd best women in Fide rated event at Delhi, Best female player award in parsvnath international chess event at Delhi, first place in numerous state level events, participation in more than 40 national and international events. |
