Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 18: The Government which claims to be committed towards eradicating corruption and throwing the dead wood out has again been caught on a wrong foot as Govt itself is allegedly shielding such elements.
Early Times is in possession of a letter which Inspector General of Police (IGP) State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) wrote to Commissioner Secretary to Government Health Department in February this year. The IGP recommends that incumbent Principal of Govt Dental College Srinagar is an accused in embezzlement case under FIR No. 33 of 2012 in Police Station VOK Srinagar and he should be transferred from his post as this would cause harassment of prosecution witness. It is more than 10 months the Principal is yet to be shown the door. The Government has also failed to give sanction for his prosecution, while as on the other hand several lower rung officials have been nailed by the General Administration Department (GAD).
The Principal of Govt Dental College (GDC) & Hospital Srinagar despite being main accused in purchase scam is calling the shots. "He has been appointing blue eyed House Surgeons , Registrars / Senior residents in the hospital against the norms set by Dental Council of India (DCI) an apex body looking after dental education in country. This was done to favour some bureaucrats and politicians who are shielding him," sources alleged.
Pertinently , a few years back same principal had failed to conduct the exams of Masters of Dental Sciences (MDS) students for several months . It was Early Times report which forced the principal to conduct these exams. The students had been alleging that their career was at stake and Early Times had carried a detailed story in this regard on March 5th 2015.
The Government Dental College & Hospital Srinagar in past has remained in news as the Principal of the college was indicted by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for causing loss amounting to almost Rs 50 lakhs to the state exchequer as he had allegedly purchased several dental equipments on much exorbitant rates from some suppliers after getting illegal gratification . Government is yet to initiate action against the principal despite the fact that an FIR stands registered against him. Vigilance according to reliable sources has forwarded his name to General Administration Department (GAD) to seek prosecution sanction under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, but the sanction is yet to be given.
