Model academy students visit Mansar Lake | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 18: Under the aegis of UNIC, Gandhi Global Family, J&K and as part of the International School Award Activity of the British Council, the students of the Eco Club of Model Academy visited Mansar Lake. The Students were accompanied by Poonam Gupta, Incharge, Eco Club and 2 faculty members. The themes covered under the activity were "Life below water and "Birds of a feather flock together"- Study of Migratory Birds. The objective behind organizing the trip was to enable the students to understand the pattern of migration and conservation of habitats, importance of preserving migratory birds and to inculcate pro-activeness and environmental consciousness among students. The students interacted with staff of the forest department and the local people who apprised them about the arrival of the migratory birds to Mansar in winters. Mansar Lake is home to a variety of avian and aquatic life. There are some resident birds and migratory species too. Later the students also participated in a letter writing session in which they wrote letters about their visit which will be exchanged with the partner school. Overall the students enjoyed the trip and gained insight into the behavior of migratory birds. The entire event was coordinated by Manju Vali, Convener Co-Curricular Committee and Jasleen Mohial, Academic Manager and ISA Coordinator. |
