Unscheduled power cuts hit Chenab Valley during ensuing winters

Bunjwah, Dec 18: Kishtwar district is known as valley of Saffron and hydro power generator, where near about dozens of power projects are constructed and some are under construction. Throughout the year unscheduled power cuts hit the life of a common man badly as no schedule is maintained by Power Development Department. In the ongoing winter season in Chenab valley , state government has failed in providing hassle free supply of essential commodities at fair price shops and sub stores. In remote regions of Kishtwar including Chatroo, Mugalmaidan, SigdiBhata , Saroor, Bunjwah, Drabshalla and Kahra, Chilly Pingal, Gandoh Bhalessa, Thathri, Premnagar ,Dunadi regions of Doda district where unscheduled power cuts are common during winter. In Chenab valley Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda district are having ability to light whole state , but, unfortunately cannot light its home regions due to negligence of central and state government. Dul Hasti power project in Kishtwar and Choudary power project in Dunadi Bunjwah are supplying power to other areas in the State but are unable to supply electricity to their home regions as unscheduled power cuts are common, hitting the future of thousands of students as they are not able to study during night hours. It is important to mention that during construction of Chaudary Power Project at Pashalla , locals were promised that electricity will be provided to land owners free of cost . "Unfortunately providing electricity free of cost was far away they are not having electricity in this modern age of technology " said Chaudary Abdul Rashid of Pashalla Bunjwah . Not only unscheduled cuts , residents of remote regions alleged that, "we are being charged electricity bill of more than Rs 325/month but we have to use torch to see the electric bulbs as electricity is just like a spark and during this month this spark is also lost to more than 18 hours."
Talking to this Correspondent, residents of Saroor, Chatroo, Bunjwah, Kahra, Bhatyas, Bhalessa , Dunadi, Pashalla and other regions said that during the last year of National Conference-Congress regime electric charges were hiked from Rs.108 to Rs.360 per month without improvement any improvement in department , said Naseer Ahmed of Bunjwah .
Residents of Kishtwar and Doda district are seeking personal intervention of J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and demanded that she should look into the matter and direct the concerned department to repair electricity wires and use iron poles instead of wooden poles in whole chenab valley and particularly in Bunjwah and Bhalessa .
