Intermittent rain continues in Kashmir, light snow in upper reaches | | | Early Tmes Report
Srinagar, Apr 18: Incessant intermittent rain lashed summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of the valley, where some upper reaches in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal received light snow for the second successive day on Saturday. Meanwhile, the night temperature dipped though settled above normal at most places in the valley, where a weather warning has been issued following which isolated thundershowers with lightning, hail and gusty winds (30 to 40 km per hour) would occur during the next 48 hours. A Met department spokesperson said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at most places in the valley during the next 48 hours. “Light rain would occur on Monday at some places,” he added. Some upper reaches, including Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh highway, continued to receive intermittent snowfall since Friday morning. The 434-km-long highway remained closed for the fourth successive day on Saturday due to snowfall and landslides. After witnessing a dip of about 3 degree in the night temperature, people woke up to a chilly and cloudy Saturday morning in Srinagar. Against 10 degree recorded on Friday, the night temperature in the city was 7.4 degree, which is slightly below normal. As the day progressed, incessant rain lashed Srinagar, resulting in dip in the day temperature. World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also received intermittent during the last 24 hours, resulting in dip in the night temperature. |
