Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 5: Congress activists today held a protest demonstration over hike of prices of ration at government depots. Hundreds of Congress workers led by PCC general secretary Manmohan Singh assembled at Shaktinagar Chowk Jammu to protest against the government over the hike of prices of ration and other essential commodities. The Congress workers in the shape of procession carrying placards in their hands and raising slogans passed through Shaktinagar bazaar that culminated at Gurah Morh-Bakshinagar. Addressing the protestors Manmohan Singh said that PDP-BJP has failed to come to the expectations of the masses in the state. He said that J&K is passing through the worst ever period since independence. If there is anything described as bad governance, the people of J&K had experienced it enough in the last four months, he added. He said that the price of flour (atta) and rice has been suddenly raised by Rs 5 per Kg. This has led to a lot of pressure on the poor people who are already fighting the menace of inflation, he said. He added that the recent demonetization has broken the back of the state and the nation. There is sense of chaos all around and this ill prepared and ill timed move has left the common man in a lurch. Kanta Bhan, vice president PCC and Anil Chopra, president District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu while addressing the protestors made scathing attack on PDP and BJP. They said that PDP is the party which only banks on Kashmir while BJP who claims to be champion of Jammu and both the parties have failed to come to the expectations of people of their respective regions and ultimately the people of whole state are suffering. They further said that the people of the state are already suffering a lot due to continuous border firing and increasing prices of ration at this juncture is a severe blow on common man, adding that Congress party represents poor and common man and it will continue to highlight their problems at all levels. Tamana, Vijay Malhotra, Suresh Maini, Pawan Shrma, Vijay Kumar, Mangal Dass, Ramesh Angurana, Gopal Sharma, Raj Kumar, Manmohan Sharma, Jagdish Kumar, Surider kumar sharma, Prabh Dayal Bhagat, Sampuran Singh, Sushil Sharma, Bodh Raj, Bachan Kumar, Pradeep Sharma, Madan Sharma, Koushal Sharma, Veera Singh, Bansa Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Gunga Kumar and others. |
